-Shipping/removal/storage guy came this morning to explain how things were going to work for taking our belongings to Houston. A few days before we leave, his guys will come in and pack everything for us (yeah), then put it in a 20-foot container. The container will be sealed, put on a ship at Grangemouth, then taken to Rotterdam, where it will change ship. The second boat will cross the Atlantic, and once in Houston our container will need to clear customs. Altogether, the whole process takes between 4-6 weeks. The good news is that with a big container like that we can even take the piano with us, as well as most of our books, kitchenalia etc!! I'm very very pleased to be able to ship that much!
-We bought a very nice dining table and chairs on ebay, thinking we would leave them for our tenants. But we are now thinking we might take it to America and leave our existing table in the flat.
-This weekend we are scouring furniture shops in search of bargains to furnish the flat. We need a bed and mattress, a wardrobe, a sofa etc...
The photo of the day is that of the fountain at Tranquility Park, in central Houston:

From what I have read, this fountain is 2 blocks long and comprises 32 different levels. The towers represent rockets and the whole construction honours the Apollo flights and the site of the first moon landing.

This is getting very exciting!! You sound impressively organised (...??!) Is the piano really going with you? - what a trip for that fine old family heirloom - the ancestors will be looking down on you smiling in disbelief! And you're certainly whetting my appetite for visiting Houston!
Hi Maylis,
I never have been through a complete move like yours. The only things I brought over to France were clothing & a few personal possesiions.
It is going to be a long trip for your belongings. I hope that they will get through fine.
See you soon,
