10.30 am

The miracle occurred at 10.30 this morning. I was chatting with the ladies from the book club, who were at our house for the first meeting of the year, when the alarm emitted a beep beep beep sound... Yes, the power is back!! I can hardly believe it. We are going to be able to spend the last night in the house with a/c gently cooling us and the fridge nicely keeping the orange juice cold for breakfast. Oh, and I can write this from my laptop!

The last 2-3 days have been rather unpleasant, with temperatures reaching about 32-33 and not being able to cool down at home or have a cold drink. We kept the windows open in the hope that that would create a few drafts, but the air was too still for that, and all we got was the noise from the neighbours' generators and the train horns in the background. We got a bit of respite on Sunday, when we spent the afternoon at the 'Body World' exhibition (see here: Body Worlds ; yes I'm sure you've heard of this before), then had an early dinner at a French cafe and subsequently went to see 'Ghost Town' (with Ricky Gervais). Very very funny film by the way!

The movers are coming tomorrow to take all the heavy stuff to the new flat. We have until the 30th to move whatever else will be left, and have in fact already taken quite a few boxes of belongings there. Looking forward to it!
